The AHC guide to growing herbs + PLUS a pretty downloadable guide for the garden shed wall!

A guide to growing herbs

Last year I made this beautiful herb box ... it was filled with my favourite herbs: Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme and Sage. I used a good compost, positioned it in full light and I watered and fed correctly and yet despite my best efforts ... it met a sorry end. Mrs Miggins next door has magic fingers and can grow anything, she will break off a twig from a rose bush (from a neighbours garden or nearby stately home) pop it in a pot and as if like magic it will flourish from her touch. So after some  'digging' about and 'leafing' through books (ok, ok I'll stop now) I have now seen the error of my ways, and the answer lies in the soil ...  get the soil right, and you can grow anything. So here is my AHC guide to growing herbs, which includes a pretty downloadable chart for your garden shed wall!

Let's get started, by cracking open the choccy eggs ...

The bedside book of the garden - by Dr D.G.Hessayon

 photo ff.png

The bedside book of the garden is on my bedside right now, and it occasionally joins me in the bath too. I find it the perfect companion for bath-time because if I have the window open I can see the garden from the tub ... and occasionally the neighbours too (ohh-err missus!) Turns out, it is about gardening but it focuses more about where the garden came from, and the people that gave it to us. It also gives us practical tips such as; How to press flowers, make wine, floral perfume, hops pillows and so much more. It's just a lovely read, and if you love flowers and gardening, I've no doubt you'll love this. This following explains it better than I can ...

How very true ... the wise words of Dr D. G. Hessayon

SEEDS!!! In a matter of weeks my garden will be transformed into a beautiful flowery haven, providing ole Mrs Miggins' cat Cliff Damien (!) doesn't have his way with it! and luckily for you, our green-fingered goddess Naomi is going to share her wisdom, and tell you how we did it!

How to shabby chic your garden furniture ... in one afternoon.

Well it's spring (almost) and at this time of year we all head out into the garden and stand hand-on-hips accessing the winter damage, and ponder how to bring our gardens back to life. What I want is a pretty summery haven, what I have is some shabby-looking furniture in dire need of some TLC. I can't afford to replace everything but nor would I want to. So before you raid your money box and head down to Homebase I have two words for you ...

SHABBY CHIC!!
